The D4: An Affordable and Professional Drum Sound Module
The D4 is a drum and percussion sound module that offers both affordability and professional quality. With its internal ROM chip, it provides 500 drum sounds sampled at 48 kHz. These sounds encompass a wide range, from acoustic drum types to electronic drum sounds. Additionally, the D4 offers orchestral and ethnic percussion sounds, as well as various percussion effects. It also includes 21 programmable drum kits and full MIDI implementation with 16 channels.
Trigger Inputs and Versatility
Featuring 12 trigger inputs, the D4 allows drummers to trigger its sounds from acoustic or MIDI pads. This means that engineers and musicians can also trigger drum sounds from the D4 using the trigger inputs and any external sound sources from tape or other studio gear. Furthermore, a hi-hat pedal connection enables the creation of more realistic hi-hat effects. The D4 offers 4 independent outputs, which can be used as 4 mono outs or 2 stereo outs.
Limitations and Editing Capabilities
While the D4 excels in its sound quality and versatility, it does have some limitations in terms of editing capabilities. Drum sounds can only be edited for tuning, panning, and volume adjustments. However, the D4 allows for drums to be assigned to special groups, enabling the creation of unique drum characteristics. For example, it is possible to cut closed hi-hats to open hi-hat sounds, among other possibilities.
