The SDS 800: Back then An Affordable Option for Simmons Analog Sounds
The SDS 800 was designed to fill the gap in the lower price range of consumer drum products. It consists of four drum channels: bass, snare, tom1, and tom2. For those who are missing a third tom, it includes the run generator, which is already familiar from the SDS1 pad. At first glance, the SDS 800 bears a resemblance to the SDS 8, which was no longer in production at that time. However, the SDS 800 does not offer factory sounds and, as mentioned earlier, lacks a third tom channel. On the other hand, it features the second parameter skin, a resonance coat simulation that was already used in the mid-range SDS 9 kit. Additional features include four internal outputs and a standard plug for an external sequencer.
Overall, the SDS 800 provides an affordable way to access Simmons analog sounds. However, due to its composition of relatively inexpensive electronic components, it should not be expected to produce the same sound quality as the SDSV or SDS7.
Limitations of the SDS 800
Similar to all desktop devices, the SDS 800 cannot be expanded with additional modules. It is important to note this constraint when considering the purchase of the SDS 800.
Included Components
The SDS 800 comes with four Mark IV pads, which are structurally identical to the SDS 9 and SDS 1000 pads. These include one bass drum pad and three small mono pads.
