What does an electronic drum set cost?
The cost of an electronic drum kit can vary greatly, ranging from €300 to €9000. The price depends on factors such as the quality of materials, finishing, and technology. There are numerous types and brands of e-drums available for purchase. In this article, we will discuss the approximate cost of electronic drumming for beginners, intermediate players, and professional drummers.
Advantages of Purchasing E-Drums
One of the main reasons people choose to buy e-drums is to avoid noise disturbance. Acoustic drum kits can be large and inconvenient to place, especially in small bedrooms. Additionally, as a musician, you may want to experiment with different sounds and techniques without others hearing your practice sessions. For example, I used to play on an acoustic drum kit in my attic. While playing along with records, my rhythms would echo throughout the neighborhood. Most neighbors didn’t mind, except for one who could have potentially contributed to financing an electronic kit. However, there were times when I wanted to focus on basic exercises like triplets, paradiddles, and soloing. Unfortunately, these sessions annoyed the neighborhood. In such situations, an e-drum kit would have been ideal, but they were too expensive for me at the time.
Current Cost of Electronic Drum Kits
It is difficult to provide a single answer to the question of how much an electronic drum kit costs. Toy stores offer cheap drum pads marketed as “electronic drum kits” for a few tens of euros, but these are not suitable for serious drumming. They may be useful for young children (2-6 years old) to explore their interest in drumming. However, if you genuinely want to learn to play drums, these pads are not a suitable starting point. On the other hand, there are professional drum pads available that allow you to connect bass drum and hi-hat foot pedals. While it is possible to learn on these pads, they still lack the authentic feel of playing on a real drum kit, as the distances between the drums and cymbals are not comparable.
For beginners and intermediate drummers, a good new e-drum kit typically costs around €800. These kits offer excellent sound quality, comfortable pads, and accurate transmission of your playing to the sound module, ensuring frustration-free practice sessions.
With a budget of €800, you can purchase a high-quality brand like Alesis, which provides a drum kit with various features and possibilities. Roland e-drums, known for their popularity, are slightly more expensive, starting at around €1100. However, Roland drum kits tend to retain their value well due to their high demand.
